He said: “I have been in post for 19 months and am now starting my new term of office.

"What has become increasingly apparent to me is that there are many people in communities across South Yorkshire wanting to speak with me and pass on areas of concern within their communities.

“As much as I would like to engage with all of these people, it is sadly just not possible. That is why I am recruiting for an assistant who will visit these communities and feed back to both myself and representatives in my office, what the issues are and look to ways of working with South Yorkshire Police to resolve them.

“The successful candidate will need to have an excellent understanding of South Yorkshire and its communities and significant experience of managing public engagement and partnership working.

"This will be a challenging role, but one I am sure will benefit the people in South Yorkshire."

The new assistant will attend public meetings, partnership meetings and speak on behalf of Dr Billings when required.

The 26 hour-a-week role will pay between £29,500 and £31,500 a year.
