Michael Dugher, Labour MP for Barnsley East, spoke out after NHS figures showed the percentage of people seen in under four hours in Barnsley has dropped from 95.4 per cent in August to 90.9 per cent in October.

Mr Dugher said that while Barnsley’s NHS is “performing well on cancer waiting times”, he added: “Massive cuts to local government and changes to the NHS are making it harder for doctors and nurses to do their jobs, with an increase in the number of people waiting four or more hours. We need the Government to get to grips with this problem before the winter crisis in our A&E departments gets even worse.”
