A spokesman for bus company First said: "Last night and into this morning we have seen significant snowfall across the higher ground in Sheffield, and as a result, there is disruption to services this morning.

"As services start this morning, we are continuously reviewing the position and will update people as we learn more.

"If you are travelling this morning, please remember it is cold and pavements will be slippery. Please wrap up warm and leave a little extra time to make sure you get around safely.

"If making journeys, please support the gritters and help keep the network moving by avoiding car journeys wherever possible - buses help spread and impact the grit salt on the network and unnecessary car journeys slow down traffic and prevents heavier vehicles from moving and melting the snow. "
