The BROTHER of a woman who suffered a heart attack aged just 29 is getting into the festive spirit to raise money for charity.
Luke McShane, of Cudworth, Barnsley, is taking part in the Sheffield Santa Jog in Sheffield city centre to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.
Luke was inspired to take part after his sister Zoe Smith suffered a heart attack in May 2010.
The mum of three pulled through but after undergoing cardiac rehabilitation in Barnsley Hospital suffered a stroke in 2011 and needed surgery.
Zoe, of Thurnscoe, said: “It totally came out of the blue. Everyone was devastated. No-one could believe what had happened.”
After her stroke, Zoe was told she needed surgery at the Northern General after they found a hole in her heart and the possible cause of her heart attack and stroke.
Now stronger than ever, Zoe added: “I want people to see that you can recover from major health problems and come out fighting.”
Luke, 28, has supported Zoe and hopes to raise awareness of heart disease and get people into the festive spirit during the mile long fun run on Sunday, December 9.
He said: “I’ve never done a charity run before. I started running about a month ago so it’s a big incentive to train and I am really looking forward to this event.”
