South Yorkshire landlords urged to install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms

Landlords are being urged to install working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their properties now that it has become a legal requirement under new government legislation.

From October 1, all privately rented homes must have a working smoke alarm installed on each floor of the property and a CO alarm fitted, if solid fuel burning appliances are present.

Landlords will be responsible for ensuring that all alarms are in full working order at the start of every new tenancy.
