South Yorkshire good causes feeling rich thanks to lottery

A host of South Yorkshire organisations have been awarded cash to continue with their ‘good work’ throughout 2014.

Burngreave Tenants’ and Residents’ Association, Doncaster Ethnic Minority Regeneration Partnership and Sheffield General Cemetery Trust are among 21 groups in the area to have received money from the HealthRich Community Interest Company.

The company has raised £562,827 through the Health Lottery and is responsible for distributing the money locally.

Chris Lunn HealthRich director, said: “These projects are extremely valuable to a range of individuals and are enabling people to live longer healthier lives.”

Derek Norbury, of Rotherham Seahorse Society, which received £7,819, said: “Seahorse carers and supporters have been able to use our new offices up to five days a week as a home for information, training and socialising in the art of caring – thanks to the support of this grant.”

Dominic Mansour, Health Lottery chief executive, said: “We are committed to raising money for good causes throughout England, Scotland and Wales.”
