South Yorkshire football fans charged with public order offences after disorder at Barnsley v Leeds United game

Six South Yorkshire football fans have been charged with public order offences in connection with disorder at the Barnsley v Leeds United match at Oakwell Stadium.

Officers investigating the disorder, which took place during the match on Saturday, January 21, have now made eight arrests.

Of those eight arrested, six men have been charged with public order offences.

Yesterday at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court, John Hall, 49, of Kingsway, Wombwell, pleaded guilty to a Section 4 public order offence and was handed a football banning order.

This prevents him from attending any home or away Barnsley FC match for three years as well as any other regulated football match.

It also prevents him being within one mile of the town centre and football stadium, home or away, for four hours before kick-off and six hours after the match has finished.

The five other men charged with Section 4 public order offences are: Scot Wogan, 30, of Raven Royd, Athersley North, Andrew Glentworth, 50, Lundhill Road, Wombwell, Chris Green, 43, of High Street, Thurnscoe, Brett Wogan, 25, of Lang Avenue, Lundwood and Tommy Lee Blessed, 20, of Gaitskell Close, Goldthorpe

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Two other men have been arrested on suspicion of affray. They are on police bail pending further enquiries.

"The investigation into the disorder continues and officers remain keen to hear from witnesses."
