South Yorkshire fires round-up: Electrical fault sparks bedroom blaze

Firefighters spent more than two hours battling a blaze at a Sheffield home in the early hours of this morning.

Crews from Central, Parkway and Birley stations were called out to a burning semi-detached property in Harborough Avenue, Arbourthorne, at 4.30am.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the blaze was started accidentally by an electrical fault in the bedroom. Nobody was in the property at the time.

The bedroom was gutted in the fire and crews left the scene at about 6.30am.

Elsewhere, firefighters had to put out a blaze to a pile of litter in Herdings Park at 8pm last night. The cause is under investigation.

Arsonists set fire to a wheelie bin outside a home in Glencore Close, Maltby, at 9.20pm. Firefighters from Maltby spent 30 minutes tackling the blaze.

Yobs also set alight a Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra in Heysham Green, Monk Bretton, Barnsley, at 10.40pm. Cudworth firefighters were at the scene for 30 minutes.
