An advertised evening with Sky Sports football commentators Chris Kamara in a South Yorkshire hotel has been cancelled - after the star revealed he knew nothing about the event.
Kamara, who played for Stoke City and Leeds United and had a loan spell Sheffield United, used Twitter to warn people that he had not been booked for the event at the Sitwell Arms in Renishaw.
He had seen a poster advertising ‘an evening with’ event at the hotel on November 14, but said he knew nothing about it.
“I have no idea about this dinner, so please don’t book to go and expect to see me because no-one has asked me about it,” he said.
The poster advertised tables for 10 at a cost of £800.
The price also included a four course dinner, wine and Kamara’s company.
There were cheaper tables for £600 and £400 and individual tickets were advertised at £45.
A hotel worker said it was being advertised as the venue for the event but had nothing to do with booking the night, claiming J and M Sports and Promotions was behind it.
Julie Bishop, from J and M Sports and Promotions, said: “Unfortunately this is no longer going ahead.”
No explanation was given.
