South Yorkshire cross country showdown

The South Yorkshire Schools Cross Country Championships take place on Saturday at Campsall Country Park, near Doncaster.

Places are at stake for the South Yorkshire teams to compete in the English Schools Championships in Nottingham on March 6. The first six in each race will gain automatic selection with a further two discretionary places.

The senior boys race looks set for a clash between Sheffield’s Jonathon Shields and Cameron Bell whilst Mary McCarthy (Sheffield) should win the senior girls race.

The intermediate girls race has a strong field with Yorkshire champion Alice Moore (Barnsley), Amelia Lancaster (Sheff) and Mya Taylor (Rotherham) running.

Firm favourite at junior level is Scott Nutter (Barnsley).

The timetable is:

10: 15 Senior girls and intermediate girls.

10:35 Year 7 boys.

10:50 Year 7 girls.

11:05 Junior boys.

11:30 Junior girls.

11:50 Intermediate boys.

12:15 Senior Boys.
