South Yorkshire councillor sentenced for sexual assault

A South Yorkshire councillor who pinched a fellow councillor's bottom has been electronically tagged and given a curfew.

Andrew Roddison, aged 41, who was elected as a Labour councillor in Rotherham in 2011, was sentenced yesterday after being found guilty of sexual assault at a previous hearing.

The married father-of-two, from Flatts Lane, Treeton, was accused of squeezing a fellow councillor's bottom at a function.

He denied the accusation, claiming that be had hugged the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

He was made the subject of a restraining order against the woman and sentenced to a community order with a six month 7pm-7am curfew.

He was ordered to pay costs of £500 and an £85 victim surcharge.

A spokesman for Rotherham Council said that no official letter of resignation had been received from the Brinsworth and Catcliffe councillor, adding: “The Leader of the Council has already written to Coun Roddison, making it clear that his behaviour has been unacceptable and urging him to stand down from his seat with immediate effect in the best interest of the community and the council.”
