A DISTRICT council has admitted breaching health and safety laws after a pensioner was run over and killed by a reversing bin lorry.

Derek Baines, aged 65, was on a mobility scooter near his home in Mellish Road, Langold, near Worksop, at the time of the accident.

He was taken to hospital but could not be saved, Worksop Magistrates’ Court heard.

Bassetlaw Council - responsible for the bin lorry - admitted breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act, and the case was sent to Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing.
