A CHARITY which gives children from Chernobyl the chance to spend a month in South Yorkshire, away from their contaminated homeland, is looking for offers of help to entertain the youngsters.

The Sheffield branch of Chernobyl Children’s Life Line has youngsters from Belarus and the Ukraine arriving in the city on July 13.

Mick Ring, chairman of the Sheffield branch, said: “We normally struggle getting host families who provide the children with accommodation, but this year we’ve already got enough.

“We’re looking for people to support host families and help deliver a full programme of activities. Hopefully by getting involved this year people might become host families in the future.

“We are also looking for firms and individuals to sponsor a child. It costs nearly £7,000 to bring the kids over.”
