Scott and Adam Chapman, from Rotherham, have vowed to complete the 13-mile race later this year after watching their grandad and uncle both battle cancer in recent years.

The pair will be among thousands taking park in the Plusnet-sponsored event on April 10, where they are determined to raise as much money as possible for Weston Park Cancer Charity

Scott, who works as a railway operative and is 23, said: “It is an immense pleasure and a privilege for me and my brother to run the Sheffield half marathon for Weston Park.

“We both feel that we need to give something back for the great work those at the hospital do, because in our eyes these incredible people don’t get the credit they deserve – who said heroes wear capes?

“Deciding to run this iconic race for Weston Park was the easiest decision we’ve ever made, because the hospital helped our grandad, uncle and a close family friend overcome and beat cancer, and for that we are forever indebted.”

“We sincerely hope the money we raise will help beat cancer sooner.”

Charity fundraiser Sarah Cross said: “We’re very grateful to Adam and Scott for joining Team Weston Park at Yorkshire’s Plusnet Half Marathon, where we hope to raise lots of money for life-changing projects within Weston Park Hospital.

“Each year, a group of Team Weston Park runners take on this exciting race, knowing that each step they take helps to improve the lives of those fighting cancer.”
