South Yorkshire allotment plan ‘out of keeping’

Have your say

PEAK District National Park planners have rejected proposals new allotments.

The scheme involved creating 80 new allotments off Baulk Lane, Hathersage.

But the scheme was rejected by the Peak Park planning committee because members feared fences, hardstandings for vehicles and a communal building would be out of keeping with the surroundings.

There were also concerns about extra traffic heading to and from the site.

Board members had been recommended to refuse permission by national park planning officials.

Their report about the application said the scheme would ‘seriously detract from the character and appearance of the countryside in the immediate surroundings and the valued characteristics of the national park’.
