Kaleem Ali, 18, of Clough Road, Masborough, was convicted after a trial at Rotherham Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Monday, February 29).

His father, Qurban Ali, was jailed for 10 years last week after he was found guilty of one count of conspiracy to rape. He was part of a gang of six people who were sent to prison for a combined total of 102 years for sexually abusing 15 young girls in Rotherham.

Yesterday the court heard how Kaleem Ali approached a child sexual exploitation victim in Rotherham in March 2015. The victim, now a young woman, is part of Operation Clover – a joint investigation by South Yorkshire Police, the Crown Prosecution Service and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.

Ali will return to court on March 22 for sentencing.

Detective constable Carly Booth, investigating, said: “Ali behaved in an intimidating and threatening manner towards one of the young woman who courageously came forward to report years of sexual abuse.

“Ali’s behaviour is inexcusable – he terrified this young woman, leaving her shaking and crying. Her strength has continued throughout this separate investigation and I hope she views today’s result as another positive step forward.

“I hope the successful conviction offers further reassurance to victims that we take offences of this nature incredibly. Trying to scare or intimidate witnesses will absolutely not be tolerated and we will do whatever we can to bring these individuals before the courts.”
