Doncaster was no place for those who are afraid of needles this week as some of the most dramatic tattoos around were put on display!

Hundreds of world class tattoo artists and thousands of ink lovers flooded into the borough over the weekend for the eighth annual Tattoo Jam.

This year, the show’s organisers brought the event forward from its usual October date to enable even more artists and visitors to attend.

The event is run by the publishers of Skin Deep and a stable of other tattoo publications and attracts hundreds of world renowned artists, who were hard at work tattooing ink lovers this weekend.

The show kicked off with Artists’ Friday, which is devoted specifically to those in the industry, and featured seminars, workshops, trade stands, vendors and lots of live entertainment.

Organisers of the event, at Doncaster Racecourse, said they had searched the world to attract artists who cater for every style and taste, including artists who tattoo traditionally by hand, using basic instruments rather than a tattoo machine which is used by most contemporary tattooists.

After a day catering only for the trade and, the organisers ran two days for the public to attend, with people descending from all over the country to be tattooed by some of the country’s best tattoo artists booths built for the show.

As well as tattooists and dozens of trade stands, selling everything from tattoo flash and clothing to jewellery, there was a host of live bands performing, and burlesque acts,

Organisers said there was a record number of visitors.

Shelley Bond, event director, said: “We’ve had a really memorable weekend at Doncaster Racecourse, with the best tattoo artists from around the world coming together to showcase their skills. This was the eighth annual Tattoo Jam and featured a packed entertainment schedule, and, of course, some amazing tattoos on show. We were pleased to welcome high-profile artists like Louis Molloy (David Beckham’s tattoo artist) back to Doncaster and drew thousands of ink lovers to the racecourse over the course of the weekend.”
