Social action day improves grounds around Sheffield school

Pupils and teachers from Firth Park Academy, along with volunteers and staff from Christian youth project Forge Youth took part in a social action day in the school grounds.
In just a few hours they were able to build a new path, paint railings, tidy up the school entrance, clean windows and pick up litter.

Sam Evans, from Forge Youth, said: "We gathered students, school staff, Forge Youth staff and volunteers to make the day happen, with Network Church Sheffield taking part in the day rather than running their normal service.
He said Forge Youth has been working with the school, in Shiregreen, for many years.
"It has been been a real privilege to work in partnership with Firth Park Academy for many years as we both are committed to investing in the children and young people in the school's community," he added.

"We want the young people in the community to know that they are important and valued and thought that a tangible way to show this was through working together to select a few projects that would further support the students environment.

He added: "Community members, youth workers, church goers, staff, parents and students put care into the environment of our school to make it the best possible place for students to learn the values of hard work and respect.
"They improved the look of the school to make it an even more fitting setting in which to raise their aspiration.
"It was a great way to show we care and do something positive."
