You’d better believe it as this amazing duo rack up an incredible 143 years between them... and they’re still playing the game!
Dave Dent, the elder statesman at 73, and Bob Armitage, who’s three years younger, turn out regularly for Ecclesfield Real Vets, playing in the Wragg League’s newly-formed 40-plus division.
So what is it about the game that keeps these two golden oldies coming back for more?
“I just love football and I want to put something back at grassroots level,” said Bob, who plays full back.
“I do the best I can do and I can still last a full 90 minutes if needed, which isn’t bad at my age,” he said.
Dave is equally enthusiastic: “I enjoy football, always have although I’ve been fortunate not to have suffered any serious injuries.
“I don’t expect any favours when I go for the ball even though I’m playing against some players who are half my age.”
Over the years Dave has played in every position including goalkeeper - even though he’s only 5 ft 7ins tall.
He now plays in midfield - when he can get a game.
“I was a bit of a ‘dynamo’ in my younger days but the battery’s gone a bit flat now,” he added.
