Soccer teams get windfall

BOYS and girls football teams in a South Yorkshire pit village are to reap the benefits of a generous £20,000 donation from the new colliery owners.

Hargreaves Services plc took over Maltby Colliery from UK Coal earlier this year for 21.5 million, saving all 470 jobs.

The firm has now set up Hargreaves Community Fund in Maltby, which will run for the next two years.

Maltby Main FC, whose players wear the Hargreaves shirt, and junior clubs Maltby Juniors and Birks Holt Sports Club are to share in the 20,000 windfall.
