The first snow of winter is forecast to fall in Sheffield tonight - with temperatures as low as minus three this weekend.
Residents could wake up to a ‘light dusting’ of snow tomorrow.
Forecasters from MeteoGroup said snow and sleet is expected to fall tonight, with between one and two centimetres to accumulate on lower ground.
Temperatures tomorrow daytime will be around two to four degrees with no more snow falling but during the night there will be a ‘sharp frost’ with the mercury as low as minus three degrees.
Sheffield Council’s Streets Ahead team said it was ‘ready and on standby’ with its fleet of 19 gritters for the ‘light dusting’ of snow.
Coun Tony Downing, cabinet advisor for environment and transport, said: “It’s that time of year again and the Streets Ahead team is on alert to respond to whatever the weather may have in store for us.
“They will be monitoring the five forecasting systems across the city all weekend and if needed, they will be out gritting primary and secondary routes.
“This year, we also need to the public to play their part and ensure they are prepared. There are simple things they can do such as wearing the appropriate footwear and checking that your vehicle is winter ready. We are also calling on our army of snow wardens to help us grit pavements and support their communities.”
