South Yorkshire children’s hospice Bluebell Wood is going Snooker loopy – after pocketing a major donation from the sport’s bosses.

World Snooker has handed over more than £152,000 to the hospice following two years of fundraising efforts.

The link-up began in 2012, after World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn read about the work of the hospice, which is based in North Anston, Rotherham.

Fundraising initiatives from World Snooker – whose world championship tournament is held at Sheffield’s Crucible theatre each year – included bucket collections at events and donating player fines to the charity.

Mr Hearn said: “I am grateful to everyone who has helped. Anyone who visits the hospice can see clearly how important it is that we give our support any way we can.”

Julie Hampson, corporate fundraiser, said: “We cannot thank them enough for everything they have done.”
