Smart water kit for residents after break-ins

Have your say

every household on one street in a North Derbyshire village has received a free property marking kit following a spate of seven break-ins.

Residents on Netherfield Close in Staveley, near Chesterfield, have been given SmartWater to mark their valuables by police.

Officers hope thieves will be deterred if they know marked goods can be traced back to their rightful owners.

Netherfield Close residents were offered the liquid after lead thefts, shed burglaries, and seven house break-ins or attempted break-ins by thieves last month.

Frank Bradley, who lives on the cul-de-sac, said: “I think it’s a really good idea. We have had a lot of problems on the street with thieves in the past month and hopefully this will put a stop to them.”
