Small Sam has a big role to play

She may be small - but Sam the dog is playing a big part in getting everything ready for tomorrow's Bake It Better Day.

The Children’s Hospital’s charity day will see groups and businesses all across the city take a break from their working day tomorrow to enjoy a spot of afternoon tea, while raising vital funds for the Make It Better appeal.

Among those taking part are over 120 members from the Simons’ construction team, which is currently hard at work building the new hospital wing. Simons’ employees will be selling cakes across the site and Sam the dog has been doing her bit to make sure the event is on the top of everybody’s priority list, posing for photos with the team to remind them to get their aprons on ahead of tomorrow’s bake sale.

Project manager Dave Johnson will be one of the day’s star bakers and has already kick-started the company’s fundraising by selling practice batches of his legendary brownies, which apparently went down a storm.

Site engineer Paul Dobson said: “We’re taking part in the sale to make a difference for all the children, parents and staff at the hospital. With over 120 workers on site tomorrow, I don’t think we’re going to have any problems getting our cakes sold. My mum booked a few days off work ahead of the sale so that she could come and help us prepare.”

Paul, who is also Sam’s owner, said: “Sam’s really looking forward to the day! She’s been making herself useful, greeting the daily tour party of hospital staff who come to have a look at the new wing, and carrying Bake It Better Day flyers around to all the team as a reminder to get baking.”
