A man, thought to be the owner, was assaulted and left with ear and neck injuries, and was taken to hospital.

The suspect was arrested, although police have not yet issued an update as to whether anyone has been charged.

Star reader and broadcast journalism student Riccardo Vitale was in the area and took these photos.

He said: “I was walking through Broomhill this afternoon and was a substantial police presence directly outside the Broomhill Tavern pub, and they have cordoned off a small square.”

Other people who live in the area said the victim was a man named George and the owner of the store for several years.
