A KILLER who fatally stabbed a man nine times has been sentenced to six years in prison for the manslaughter.

Gary McKeown, aged 37, knifed 36-year-old Philip Smith at his home on Church Street, Thurnscoe, before slashing him across the face as he lay on the floor.

McKeown admitted manslaughter on the grounds of loss of self-control while being tried on a murder charge.

Sheffield Crown Court heard Philip and his younger brother Ben had gone to Church Street to fight McKeown, with whom they were involved in a row.

DCI Tom Whiteley, from South Yorkshire Police, said the killing in January was caused by ‘problems in a close-knit community.’
