SIX things we learned from Sheffield Wednesday 1 Ipswich Town 2

Here are six things we learned from the 2-1 reverse...

David Jones is invaluable

Starting with a positive - there weren't many - and praise must go to Jones who has been Wednesday's best player in my opinion, over the past month. There's no flair from Jones, he does all the dirty work, the tracking back, the covering for attacking players and is the hardest-working member of the team. Ipswich scored the winner when he went off on Saturday. Not a coincidence.

Wednesday are wobbling

Last week against Derby, having had a bright start, when they didn't get the penalty they should have got, rather than be fired up by a sense of injustice, the Wednesday players went into their shells. On Saturday, when Ipswich finally threatened in the final stages having barely had a kick in the final third in the second half, the Owls looked rattled and eventually conceded. Mental toughness appears to be lacking. Where is the swagger of last season? Saturday was bonfire night and the Owls players definitely needed a rocket up their ****.

Carvalhal has to be ruthless with his midfield - get Bannan off the right!

The Owls head coach's attempt to shoehorn Barry Bannan into the team is doing neither the player, nor the team any favours. The Scot can't get into the game while on the right and his form is suffering as a result. With Jones (again, my opinion) hugely important, Carvalhal has to chose between Kieran Lee or Bannan for the other central midfield role. It's a big call but that's his job.

Ipswich did a job on the Owls

The Tractor Boys rolled in and played for a draw and ploughed off with an unlikely win. Mick McCarthy was under-pressure after the fans turned on him last week and the last thing he needed was a defeat as it could have frankly spelled the end for the Barnsley-born boss. So he set the team up to be hard to beat and that's exactly what they were. Yes, creatively Wednesday were severely lacking but credit for that should go to the visitors who worked incredibly hard to keep Carvalhal's side at bay.

Fans have every right to boo

While I personally don't think booing players off the pitch is a good idea (especially taking into account the above), fans, within reason, can vent their frustration however they please. Wednesday were very poor on Saturday and there's no point pretending otherwise. If fans want to boo and jeer then they're well within their rights to do so; they paid a lot of money to be served that desperate display at the weekend. Hopefully the players react positively and it's the last we hear it.

Let's not panic, eh?

Finally, while things aren't going as well as many had hoped, expected or indeed demanded, there's a lot more to come from this team, which has to be seen as a plus point. We have all seen what certain players, who haven't been performing particularly well, are capable of and there's no reason why they can't find that form again. There only needs to be a bit of tinkering (and stick to that when the formula is found) and I see no reason why Carvalhal can't do it. It's still early, the play-off places are within reach and who, apart from Brighton and Newcastle have really shown impressive, consistent form?
