Six new signings for Sheffield FC

Kiwomya spoke recently of the need to add some experience to his relatively young squad. And with that remit in mind has secured the services of tenacious midfielder Glyn Cotton and defender Lee Cooksey amongst six new signings.

The 29-year-old Cotton has played more than 400 Evo-Stik league games for clubs including Coalville Town and Lincoln United, Belper Town along with a short spell at neighbours Stocksbridge Park Steels, and more recently had been turning gout for County Senior League side Swallowest MW.

Cooksey needs little introduction with the tall defender returning for a third spell at the Coach & Horses from Belper Town, having also had stints with Rainworth MW and spent time playing in Australia with Riversdale in Melbourne.

Kiwomya has also brought in 20-year-old goalkeeper Tom Hunt from Southport who has had spells with North West Counties League sides Northwich 1874 and AFC Blackpool this season. Hunt is his hoping that gaining valuable experience at Sheffield will help in his ambitions to play in league football.

Completing the new arrivals are Alex Meekam, Harry Flowers and Luke Martin from the Sheffield Hallam University side with who Club have close links

Cotton, Cooksey and Hunt all made their debuts in the 1-0 home reversal against Daventry Town that extended Sheffield ‘s winless league run to eight games.

Kiwomya was happy with the performance and that of the new arrivals, if not the result. He said: “We were knocking on the door in the second half and I thought we deserved a point but it wasn’t to be. What was pleasing was to see how quickly the new players fitted in. It was important we brought some experience and knowhow into the team. We’ve been leaking too many soft goals lately and I couldn’t let that continue.”

The Sheffield boss also revealed that the vastly-experienced defender Dan White is rejoining the club and could be in line to make his debut at Newcastle Town tomorrw.

“He will be another really good player for us. Dan knows all about the club and what the expectations are here,” said Kiwomya.

White has been singed from Division One rivals Leek Town although more recently had been playing at Midland League side Heanor Town on dual registration.

He also captained Belper Town to the play-off final win two seasons ago.
