Six candidates in Barnsley by-election

Barnsley Council has confirmed six candidates for a by-election for a seat in the Old Town ward to be held next month, following the resignation of a sitting councillor.

Anita Cherryholme has left the authority after several years representing the ward, leading to a by-election which will take place on July 12.

Barnsley Council has now confirmed the candidates as Kevin Bennett, representing the Liberal Democrats, Tony Devoy for the Yorkshire Party, Gavin Felton, Democrats and Veterans Party, Christopher Houston, British National Party, Jo Newing, Labour and Clive Watkinson, Conservative.
