Simon's words stand Nathan in good Stead

Sheffield new boy Nathan Greaves has revealed how club captain Simon Stead has played a pivotal role in his winter preparations.

Local youngster Greaves sat out the majority of the 2015 season after suffering a badly broken leg riding for Workington in June.

After being snapped up by the Tigers in November, he has revealed how club captain Stead was quick to get in touch to offer assistance as he prepared for the new season.

Stead himself suffered a similar injury which ruined his 2013 season and Greaves says his help has enabled him to enter the new season fitter than ever.

Hometown hero Stead will return to Owlerton tomorrow for the opening home meeting of the season with Leicester when Greaves will also make his home debut. The teenage ace is nonetheless delighted to be riding under the leadership of the 2014 Premier League Riders’ Champion.

“I met up with Steady last year when I first signed for Sheffield,” Greaves said. “He advised me on pretty much everything really. He pointed me in the right direction in terms of what I needed to be doing fitness and health wise. I took it all on board and I’m fitter than ever, and he’s given me advice on bikes and riding stuff as well.

“I’m sure he’ll have plenty of other useful stuff I can learn from, and I’ll be listening carefully because he’s an experienced rider who has had a great career.”

Greaves added: “He’s not just a great rider, he seems like a great captain as well so I’m looking forward to riding alongside him and hopefully having a good season for Sheffield together.”
