Contractors are fitting out the nine screens of The Light, on The Moor, and work is on schedule for the first screenings on April 14.

CEO Keith Pullinger said: “The signage shows us we are one big step nearer opening our doors to the public, and we are looking forward to welcoming first time visitors during the Easter break.

"This is only the beginning and we shall be sharing more of our plans in the coming weeks.

"We are also delighted to be joining The Moor and to become part of an area that is becoming a destination for visitors to the city centre.”

Primark and Specsavers have already opened in the retail and leisure complex, with Zizzi, Pizza Express and GBK due to open at the same time as the cinema.

The Light has also applied for a license to sell alcohol and provide film, live music and recorded music 24 hours a day.

The cinema's general manager Ashley Inman said it was to cover special events.

He added: "The licence is all about flexibility and it is certainly not our intention to trade 24 hours.

"We want to be able to enhance our offering with a handful of unique events throughout the year, including special screenings, conferencing and live sports.

"Such events could require this licence flexibility."
