Sid: Nobody can beat me. VIdeo.

NOBODY likes getting a bloody nose, boxer or not.

Nadeem Siddique isn't any different, although if you are going to get one it might as well come from the hands of a world champion.

It helps with street cred when you can say you received your reddened face from someone like Junior Witter.

That's what happened last week when the pair were sparring in readiness for their separate battles on Friday, at Doncaster Dome.

While Witter defends his WBC light-welterweight belt against Vivian Harris, Siddique is also in combat, in a bout which, while lower down the scale in boxing terms, means just as much to him.

Siddique is hoping to put on a show of his own by beating newly-installed British Masters lightweight champion Tom Glover.

The Ingle gym's honour must be restored, for a start. Last month, Essex-based Glover beat Sheffield's John Baguley to the domestic title.

Siddique, aged 29, with 19 straight wins making up his unblemished record, aims to make Glover victim no 20.

"There has been a right buzz going on at the gym because of Junior's fight. Because I have been involved and sparring with Junior, I am in top shape", says the boxer nicknamed Sid.

"This is my chance for the important people in boxing to watch how good I am and I want to put in my best show so far."

Living in Wincobank but, like Witter, born in Bradford, Sid has never boxed in South Yorkshire, and wants people to notice him, as well as his world champion pal.

"Glover is a champion. He is coming to win and the fight is a step up for me" he says.

"But I am switching much more naturally than I have ever done before and I'm just as strong southpaw as I am orthodox. I will be too much for Glover."

Siddique's favourite punch is "the left hook downstairs" - and he hopes to use it to finish off Glover inside the distance.
