“On another day we could have won that. We had chances but we were proud of how we played,” he said.

“There were lots of good positives, but also plenty of areas to get from us. But we’ve got another tough game now and we know we have to be at our best to compete and try and get points.”

Heckingbottom was banished to the stands for mis-management of their technical area following heated scenes after winger Adam Hammill was sent-off.

Hammill will definitely miss this weekend’s clash with the Bluebirds as he serves the first of a three-match ban– and Heckingbottom is waiting to see whether he’ll receive a touchline ban for his reaction following the incident.

“We’ve suffered for mis-management, so we’ll have to see whether I get a touchline ban,’ admitted Heckingbottom.

“We’ve been happy with the performances for a long, long time and we’re happy with the way we’re playing.

“But it’s about the points and that’s what we want. I am concerned about discipline because we have had a few red cards and you can’t afford them.

“We just don’t want players missing games, simple as that.”
