A shot was fired in a Sheffield shop during a robbery.

Detectives in Sheffield are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at a newsagents in Ellerton Road earlier this week.

At around 6.40pm on Monday November 23, an unknown man with his face covered entered the minimarket in Ellerton Road and asked for money from the staff.

When this was refused, it is he produced a shotgun from a rucksack and fired it in the shop.

The man then reportedly took a quantity of cash and ran from the shop, up Lindley Road and out of sight.

Nobody was injured during the incident.

Officers are carrying out enquiries in the local area and examining CCTV footage.

They are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or a man running from the area at the time.
