Shoppers queue to bag a bargain as new store opens its doors

SHOPPERS in Sheffield couldn't wait to bag a bargain when the new Primark store opened in Meadowhall shopping centre.

Almost 400 people turned up for the grand opening yesterday morning to be first to check out the check outs.

And, in order to accommodate the hundreds of bargain hunters, barriers had to be put up around the store so eager shoppers knew where to queue.

Primark, famed for its low cost clothing, has stocked the new two-storey shop with ladieswear, menswear, childrenswear, accessories and homewear.

A Meadowhall spokesman said: “Although the shoppers were predominantly women the store also stocks a menswear range - which will undoubtedly pull in the students once they return to the city.”

Primark is one of three new shops to open on The Gallery - a new section of mall which was created from the old Sainsbury's store.

The other two stores are shoe retailer Tamaris and stationery emporium Paperchase.

A number of other retailers will open in The Gallery over the coming weeks, including Next which will relocate from its current store to a huge new unit.
