A shopper was punched in the stomach by a fellow customer following a row at a South Yorkshire supermarket.

Police said the 45-year-old victim was assaulted in Morrisons at Cortonwood in Brampton, Rotherham.

She was in the store’s bakery area with her teenage daughter at the same time as two women who were with a young girl, aged around seven.

A dispute broke out between the teenage girl’s mum and the elder of the two other women, who punched the 45-year-old in the stomach before walking off from the scene.

The culprit is described as white, aged between 45 and 55, around 5ft 3ins tall and of a medium build.

She had brown hair tied back in a bun with a fringe and was wearing a quilted, black, waist-length jacket with trousers.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the incident, which happened at around 5.30pm last Thursday, should call police on 101, quoting incident number 789 of October 9, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
