Sailors linked to South Yorkshire have returned to the UK – three years after their ship left the country’s shores.

Barnsley-affiliated Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship Fort Victoria, above, has spent much of its 1,200 days away fighting piracy since it sailed out of Scotland in August 2010. The vessel has acted as the flagship of a task force charged with hunting down ‘pirate groups’ off the Somali coast. Each blow against the pirates – disrupted attack or arrest – has been marked with a skull and crossbones on the ship, inset.
