Shell out to see Crabs

Have your say

Crabs came to town in search of the seaside in Sheffield city centre - as part of a fundraising drive for St Luke’s Hospice.

Cricketers from Crab CC dressed in their full match whites visited the Sheffield By The Sea event in the Peace Gardens, handing out leaflets to publicise a charity match for the cause.

“We heard the seaside had come to Sheffield so, being Crabs, we thought we would come and check it out!” said player Andy Barr.

The cricketers are playing a match today against Lashings World X1, starting at 1pm at Abbeydale Sports Club.

Cash is being raised in memory of local cricketer Tom Collins, nicknamed the Crab, who died from cancer two years ago.

Tom’s son, also named Tom, said: “St Luke’s took brilliant care of my dad and some of his cricketing mates said we should have a team in his honour.”

The Lashings team will include Devon Malcolm, Henry Olonga and Saqlain Mushtaq. Henry Blofeld from Test Match Special will commentate.
