Shefield champ Kell Brook excited by expectation to win in style

Most people expect Sheffield’s IBF world welterweight champion to easily defeat Canadian challenger Kevin Bizier at the Arena. And that, in itself, presents the threat of complacency.

Yet Brook told The Star: “There is pressure from people for me to get rid of him in style but great athletes perform better under pressure.

“Doing a job on Bizier and impressing is all I can do and I will do that.”

Bizier has been beaten twice in a 27-fight career, but has never been stopped. “It would be good to stop him - after all, he is not in my league. It will be the first Canadian I have boxed and I am looking forward it.”

Brook relishes the chain of events which shows that Bizier beat Fredrick Lawson...who beat Breidis Prescott who KO’d Amir Khan in 2008.

Bizier, the “fighting pride of Quebec City” is from a boxing family and has 63 per cent KO rate. His amateur upbringing featured a bout with Argentinian Marcos Maidana, a former world champion.

Brook, who has four years more ring experience than Bizier, will have the right mind-set on the night, according to retired champion Jamie Moore. He said complacency was “something should be mindful of. Kell is an experienced fighter and he’s at the top level so he can’t afford to take his eye off the ball for one second.

“I don’t think it’ll be a problem as long as it has been addressed before-hand. You tend to get problems there when everybody around you is complacent” he told Sky Sports.

“I don’t think it’ll happen in this case because Dominic Ingle and Brendan Ingle - and Johnny Nelson, who is good friends with Kell - will all be drumming it in to him that he can’t afford to take his eye off the ball.

“I’m sure he’ll be professional enough.”
