Sheffield’s smallest brewery holds third beer festival

Thomas Richards and Luisa Golob, aged 35 and 32 respectively, have been running On the Edge brewery out of their Woodseats home for the past three years.

Always striving to brew the freshest, most natural ale possible, the couple’s labour of love has earned them a sterling reputation in Sheffield and further afield.

Using the best and most interesting ingredients, they produce a variety of real ale from Belgians to British 
classics.

Tomorrow (Friday), craft ale connoisseurs and blissfully unaware beer fans alike are invited to the third beer festival the brewery has hosted.

Luisa said: “The last festivals have been incredible fun and we are hoping this year will be the best one yet.

“We’ve got nine different beers for people to try, some great live music, traditional bar games and pie and peas for people to tuck into.”

But punters are warned to get down early if they want to sample the home-brewed delights on offer.

Luisa added: “All the ale we make is rare and produced in very small amounts.

“Owing to the experimental nature of the brewery, everything we have at the festival is unlikely to be brewed again.

“We have sold out in a matter of hours at the last festivals, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to come along and try some our brews.”

There will be nine pins – which each contain 35 pints – for people to work through.

All drinks are served in half pint glasses, so people can sample as many as possible.

On the Edge Brewery started selling beer in 2012.

Tom had been brewing his own beer and fruit wines for about seven years prior to the business being launched.

Friends and family had told him how much they enjoyed the brews, so the brewery was launched in the couple’s house.

Since then, they have won two awards: Sheffield CAMRA Silver Award Best Beer of Sheffield 2012 and The Hop Beer of the Festival voted by the drinkers 2012.

Tom said: “I am passionate about the experimentation and science behind the brewing process.

“Our beer really is unique and we would love to see people come and try it out for themselves.”

The festival is taking place on Friday (December 11) at The Old Junior School, South View Road. The event will be running from 6pm ‘until the beer runs out’. It is free to attend.
