Sheffield's Chase the Pud charity fun run called off - but organisers hope event will return 'bigger and better' next year

Chase the Pud is held each winter to raise money for the British Heart Foundation, and in previous years the event has attracted more than 300 runners.

But BHF announced this year's race would not go ahead as planned on Sunday, December 11, because a lack of entrants meant it would not 'raise the money we need to justify our investment'.

The charity apologised to those who had already signed up, and said it hoped the event would return 'bigger and better' next year.

Chrish Perera, BHF's head of community fundraising in the north, said: "We are sorry to announce that the BHF has had to cancel its much-loved Chase the Pud event in Sheffield this year.

"This decision has not been made lightly, but we have to ensure that our fundraising events raise as much money as possible for us to invest into our life saving research.

"Unfortunately, after careful thought, we have concluded that this event won’t meet the participant numbers or raise the money we need to justify our investment.

"We understand this news may be disappointing to our supporters and we would like to thank everyone who signed up to help support our vital work.

"We are happy to help you transfer your place over to our other Chase the Pud events happening in York or Doncaster on Sunday 4 December. Alternatively, we would be happy to arrange a refund of the registration fee.

"We hope that we can bring BHF Chase the Pud Sheffield back next year, for a bigger and even better event."
