The city’s bid committee says Sheffield has a fantastic creative and digital quarter but can offer so much more.

Richard Caborn, chairman of the bid committee, has emphasises the two universities, teaching hospitals, private sector and transport links. It’s hoped household names such as McLaren, Boeing and Rolls Royce will also be a pull.

“We have to show we are distinctly different and we can do that because we have the culture, the environment with the Peak District, the connectivity with the road and train network and the contacts with business and universities,” he said.

Mr Caborn asked Lord David Putnam to advise on the bid after the famous film producer visited the digital quarter.

Mr Caborn added: “Our bid includes the private sector, the universities, film making companies, the world renown DocFest, the digital and creative industries quarter and high tech industries. It’s just what Channel 4 is looking for.

“We want to show Channel 4 that we are totally different to any of the other major cities who are bidding. Our bid is in keeping with Channel 4 in that it’s innovative, independent and breaking the boundaries of diversity. Sheffield is a city which really reflects the values of Channel 4.”
