Sheffield's 19-medal haul in South Yorkshire Schools Summer Games
Almost 700 youngsters from Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster and Sheffield competed in the 2016 South Yorkshire School Games Summer Festival at Horizon Community College and Shaw Lane Sport Club.
Former England international hockey player, Charlotte Hartley officially opened the games following a traditional athletes’ parade.

Hide AdPrimary and secondary age pupils competed in six events, including special educational needs and disability competitions (SEND) plus an adventure challenge.
The event, supported by a team of 70 volunteers, also included a multi-sport Change 4 Life festival.
Sheffield schools were the big winners coming away with 19 medals – five golds, six silvers and eight bronze.
Meadowhead School and Tapton School pupils picked up three medals each.

Hide AdThere were seven medals for Rotherham schools, Doncaster won six and Barnsley were awarded four.
Simon Pugh, development manager for South Yorkshire Sport, which organises the Games, said: “We’ve hosted the Games every year since 2012 as part of the legacy of the London Olympics and, once again, it was a fantastic occasion and display of competitive sport.
“It was inspiring to see the talent and team work on show but, importantly, the young people supporting each other across the different events.”
Ahead of the Summer Festival, 350 pupils from South Yorkshire schools also took part in two standalone sporting finals in Barnsley – orienteering at Cannon Hall and athletics at the Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre.
