Sheffield youngster battling cancer smiles again thanks to kind-hearted family and friends

Kasabian Newton-Smith, aged eight, has been fighting for survival since he was a toddler.

When he was two years old his devastated family was told he had just a fortnight left to life.

But six years on the courageous youngster is still battling.

And despite being ill, Kasabian, from Parson Cross, has raised over £2,500 for the Sheffield based charity Parents’ Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia.

Alongside the fundraising for PACT, Kasabian’s family and friends also set up ‘Kas’s Smile’ - a fund to help make the youngster’s dreams come true and to raise money for equipment for his changing needs.

The cash was used to build the youngster a treehouse in his garden and has now been used to buy him a new wheelchair, which mobility firm Clark and Partners supplied and donated £250 towards.

Kasabian, a pupil at Yewlands Academy, fell ill in 2010 and a brain tumour the size of a man’s fist was found.

The tumour was found to be connected to a form of bone cancer the youngster was also diagnosed with.

Over the years more tumours have developed, including one in his brain which is inoperable.

Wheelchair Specialist, Paul McGee, of Clark and Partners, said: “It was a pleasure to meet with Kasabian and provide him with a suitable wheelchair.

“He was excited that he got to choose the hot wheels design for his wheel spokes.

“Kas’s Smile campaign is a worthy cause and we wish him all the best.”
