Reach let fly with an incredible looping shot into the top corner, just before half time at Hillsborough, to put Wednesday in front against their local rivals last month.

The Owls were denied a win by Mateusz Klich’s equaliser after the break but the terrific goal from Reach remained the highlight of an entertaining match - and it now goes up against John McGinn's superb volley, ironically against Wednesday at Villa Park, and Alan Browne's finish for Preston against Bolton for the goal of the month prize.

Not that Reach himself believes he will win. “The Villa goal by McGinn was really special, especially the technique he used," the Owls star admitted.

He added: “The moment I hit it I thought 'that's in.'

"But when it hit the post that was when I took a second to look and thought 'where's that going to go' and then I was just picturing it coming across and hitting the other post but it went in.

"It took everyone a second to realise it had gone in and then the place erupted.

"It's why you play for moments like that. The atmosphere was brilliant when it went in.”

Boss Jos Luhukay was suitably impressed, too.

"I must see it again many times back," he said.

"Adam's goal can be the best goal of the season maybe. It was a special goal."
