Clare, who left Wednesday last summer after rejecting new terms, has today joined Hearts on a three-year deal. He watched their 1-0 victory over Motherwell on Saturday.

"Even before I came up I knew that Hearts was a massive club and you've got really passionate fans and a great fan base, people who you want to play for so that really attracted me.

"There are great facilities to develop and management that really want to push young players and make them better."

The Londoner spent the first half of last season on loan at Gillingham, appearing 26 times for the Gills.

He returned to Hillsborough and made five appearances, scoring once.

Hearts manager Craig Levein described the deal as "quite complicated", saying: "He's a Sheffield Wednesday player essentially because he is still subject to training compensation, and we are just trying to get that whole thing sorted out."

The Star understands the Owls will be owed in the region of £130,000 in training comepnsation for Clare.

Describing himself as an "athletic, energetic" player, Clare said: "I love being on the ball and I love being able to dribble but moving it when I need to.

"Goals, assists'¦someone who's quite exciting for the fans to watch, I feel.

"It can be quite fun to watch me when I'm in full flow, but someone who will always give 100 oer cent and has passion to win games, win trophies, win leagues and give everything for the team, the fans and the people managing me."
