Sheffield Wednesday: We want momentum for play-offs says Bannan

Before they begin their play-off campaign with the first leg of the semi-final on Friday, they visit Wolverhampton Wanderers in the final game of the regular season.

Head coach Carlos Carvalhal is expected to make a raft of changes to his side this afternoon with fringe players set to be handed game time.

But Scotland international Bannan – who himself is unlikely to start at Molineux – says whatever side is put out will have victory on their minds as they look to head into the play-offs on the crest of a wave.

“We want to win the game,” he said. “You want confidence to be sky high going into the play-offs.

“If the gaffer changes things and tries to freshen it up and give people a chance, then so be it.

“The eleven who played last Saturday are all preparing as if we are going to start.

“We don’t know what the team will be.

“I’m preparing as if I’m going to be playing and we will see what happens at the weekend.”

Wednesday striker George Hirst – son of Owls legend David – starting in England U17’s European Championship defeat to Sweden yesterday.

Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson scored for England in the 2-1 defeat which saw Hirst replaced by Ipswich Town’s Ben Morris.
