Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri spent £1m on a brand new playing surface last summer.

Although the Owls’ results in their own backyard have been superb this season, the adverse weather conditions over the Christmas period have taken its toll on the pitch, which is starting to cut up and look patchy in places.

Hutchinson, who agreed a new two-and-a-half-year contract last week, told BBC Radio Sheffield: “The pitch is not good at all.

“The owner has paid all that money but I don’t know what has happened.

“But we deal with that; we are good players and it doesn’t really bother us.”

After completing two training sessions, Hutchinson returned to action against Leeds. He had missed the three previous fixtures due to groind/back injuries.

Hutchinson joined Jack Hunt, Barry Bannan, Atdhe Nuhiu and skipper Glenn Loovens in committing his long-term future to the Owls.

“It is massive to keep the group together and happy,” stressed the former Chelsea trainee, who can be utilised at right-back, centre-half or in defensive midfield.

“I think you’ve seen that as a collective group that if you are all happy, you can go far. Everyone is settled and we have a great balance and team spirit.”
