“We have to make sure we keep this feeling and take it into next season and make sure it doesn’t happen again,” Loovens said.

“It wasn’t to be and it’s a hard one to swallow.”

Loovens admitted defeat at Wembley is not easy to accept, particularly for those making their first appearances at the national stadium. But he says ultimately, things did not go Wednesday’s way.

He said: “There were some sad faces afterwards but that is part and parcel of football.

“For some of them, it was the first time they had played at Wembley.

“It’s hard if you lose but that’s football and you have to bounce back and I’m sure we will do.

“We weren’t ourselves. Although everyone worked really hard and I’m very proud of the team and how far we’ve come, sometimes things don’t go your way.”
