Sheffield Wednesday: Unhappy Carlos calls for law change

The Sheffield Wednesday head coach is still fuming over referee Tim Robinson’s decision to send off Fernando Forestieri in their goalless draw at Hull City last week.

The striker was dismissed after receiving two yellow cards. His second caution was after he was harshly penalised for diving following a challenge by Michael Dawson. The Hull defender later conceded it was a mis-timed challenge and that he was lucky to escape punishment.

While Carvalhal refuses to blame Robinson, he confirmed the Owls have contacted the Football Association to vent their frustration

“I’m not having a go at the referee,” he said. “They can make mistakes just as I can.

“The problem is it has damaged the image of the player.

“This is the country of the football and has a big responsibility. It must give an example to the world about everything in football.

“When something happens like this, everyone recognises it is not correct. They must change the rules.”

The Portuguese chief is baffled why clubs can’t appeal cautions.

“We can do nothing and it is very strange to me,” he said.

“We tried to show to the referees that they are doing a lot of mistakes about Fernando. He is a quick mover and they must be protected by the referees, not the opposite.”

Following his second sending off in as many matches, Forestieri will serve a two-match suspension, starting against Rotherham United tomorrow.

“With Fernando, we are more strong,” he said. “But we have won games in the past without Fernando. It is not a big probem to us.”
